Nergal’s Signature Sound Takes Flight
 
In the latest permutation of signature stylings, Behemoth frontman Nergal is once again at the helm of an ESP that’s been outfitted with all the right stuff needed to deliver the Polish act’s hallmark blackened death metal sound. This isn’t just a question of looking the part, either, despite the allure of this razor-sharp V’s massive wings. The distinctive sonic profile of the HEX-6’s mahogany body, 3-piece maple neck, and Macassar ebony fingerboard is elevated by the inclusion of active Fishman pickups, offering a slew of flexible voicing options that won’t lose their edge. With 24 frets and a 25.5-inch scale, the LTD HEX-6 has Sweetwater’s guitarists eager to try out their most voltaic riffs on a killer V.
 
Luthiers at ESP know a few things about what makes for a great metal guitar, serving up countless design configurations around the world. This expertise is on full display with the HEX-6. Let’s start with mahogany body: a tonewood known for its robust mids, organic sustain, and harmonic-rich overtones, balanced throughout the spectrum. A 3-piece maple neck balances the mahogany’s tonal heft with its own brightness, fantastic note separation, and tight lows. Macassar ebony comprises the fingerboard, bringing with it an extra heap of sustain with exquisite articulation.
 
High-speed, all-access action
Opting for a 3-piece neck construction means two important things for you, dear player: increased complexity of the guitar’s harmonic makeup, and greater dimensional stability. Not only will the neck be much less prone to warping, but it can be more easily shaped without sacrificing resonant qualities in its neck-thru assembly. Its thin “U” profile expertly blends speed and comfort, making easy work of the formidable 25.5-inch scale and 24-fret range. Because of its distinctive V-shaped design, every extra-jumbo fret is always easily within reach.
 
Multi-voiced magic
After more than 30 years with Behemoth, Nergal has had plenty of time to refine his thinking surrounding pickups, and what it takes to refine and achieve a satisfying tone. That knowledge led to the excellent choice of two active Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers. For the uninitiated, these unique pickups are known for their cutting-edge, multi-voice designs. These are painlessly activated via the push-pull mechanism of the volume knob, freely toggling between active high-octane sonics and crisp passive-style tones.
